El Pachuco: Reviews & Ratings
The food is great, the portions are way over the top. One appetizers for 4 people is enough. Think family style appetizers...they even ask if its for the table or for individual. It will be sized as such.
I love Mexican food, so my first night in Barcelona I decided to try out this place and I totally recommend it. The meals were tasty and very filling, great value for the price. The server was also nice to recommend to us and explain the portions. Also, the music and noise was a bit a lot for me and the sitting setting wasn’t quite comfortable, probably just because I am not familiar with it and would prefer a comfy chair while eating. But that’s just my own personal preference.
I give this place a 5 out of 5. I’m a true Foodie. When I say this is the best Mexican food , it prevailed and then some. The flavors are authentic, no preservatives, portions are large. It’s exquisite! It’s the BEST I’ve had!!!

El Pachuco, nestled in the heart of Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella, offers an authentic Mexican dining experience that speaks volumes through its vibrant flavors and generous portions. From the moment you step into this cozy yet vividly decorated space on Carrer de Sant Pau, 110, you are immersed in a lively Mexican atmosphere that holds true to tradition while embracing modernity.
The menu is a celebration of Mexican classics — think succulent meats, hearty frijoles, and a variety of tacos and quesadillas that cater to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. What truly stands out are their frozen margaritas, especially the Margarita Frozen de Tamarindo and the Cilantro Margarita. These cocktails capture the essence of Mexican mixology with refreshing, bold taste profiles. The mezcal offerings and Bloody Mary are also notable highlights, providing a perfect balance of smoky depth and zesty spice to complement the dishes.
What I found particularly remarkable is the portion strategy. Appetizers are served family-style, designed to foster sharing and communal enjoyment. As noted by diners like Lionel Pena, one appetizer easily feeds four people, making it an ideal spot for groups seeking to try a little bit of everything without overordering. This also reflects the authenticity and generosity woven into the dining experience here.
The flavors are authentic and unpretentious, with no trace of preservatives — a reflection of genuine Mexican culinary artistry. Each bite feels rich and fulfilling, satisfying without overwhelming. The vibrant spices and fresh ingredients stand out, especially in dishes like the quesadillas vegetarians and the tangy Tamarindo margaritas, which highlight the balance of sour and sweet that Mexican cuisine masters.
While the setting may be compact and the ambiance lively—sometimes bordering on noisy—it adds to the convivial and spirited charm that El Pachuco embodies. The friendly staff enhances this experience, offering thoughtful recommendations and making sure guests understand the portion sizes, ensuring no one leaves hungry.
In summary, El Pachuco is a gem for anyone craving genuine Mexican fare amidst Barcelona’s bustling cityscape. Its authenticity, robust flavors, generous servings, and spirited cocktails create a memorable and flavorful journey through Mexico’s rich culinary landscape.
